I went to the lake yesterday and the boat preformed fine for around 3 hours of stopping and riding, it idled good and would go WOT with no issues, we decided to take one last ride around the lake and it started cutting out and would only go around 5mph when the throttle was wide open, every now and then it would try to go WOT but would bog back down, I have eliminated the oil injection and premix 50:1.it will start and idle just fine but won't take much throttle, it doesn't die or anything, I also noticed that when this happened it was smoking alot.if you try reving at the carbs it would spit and sputter.could this be a carb issue? The boat hasn't been used alot in the past few years because the previous owner had ride plate issues and spent 1,000s on the boat, I bought it and installed all bolts in the ride plate and it has been fine ever since until now.also its not cavitating or anything, it just won't rev high enough to get up and go.

It's hard to tell what it might be, so I would start with the basics. Do you know what year the motor is? Start by performing a compression check, and verifying that you have good spark on each spark plug. When was the last time the fuel pump diaphragm was replaced?

It's a 96 model, and I'm unsure about the fuel pump diaphragm, I haven't had a chance to check compression but I will later on today, what has me puzzled is that it will idle and fire right up without any hesitation or problems. The previous owner didn't know anything about boats so I'm sure not much has been replaced.

Compression on all 4 are around 120-125,all plugs are wet and oily, when this happened yesterday it was smoking alot under power when it started running bad,I started off with fresh gas this year because the gas had been in it before I bought it,I bypassed oil injection and premixed.all the plugs looked fine when I checked them after buying the boat last year. Could the auto enricher cause flooding issues? I'm not real big on boat motors so I'm just looking for input,if it was a Ford I would be in my knowledge base lol.

I hooked it up on the homemade flush kit I made to hook into the water supply from the jet and let it run a few seconds and very quickly revved it up and it seemed to be acting normal, I know its not good to do that without it being in water for the jet.I know yesterday that it was sitting for about 30mins and we decided to go on one last ride, could the rev limiter cause it to do something like it did? I'm going to try to take it to the lake Friday afternoon and see if it does it again and see if unhooking the black/yellow wire from the limiter has any effect on it.

I wouldn't think that the auto enrichener would cause the symptoms that you are describing. If it was leaking, it would not idle well at all. I would definitely do what you mentioned and disable the rev-limiter and see what affect it has.

After some research I have a cdm ignition with what appears to be a black stator,I'm not sure if that could cause it or not, serial number on engine is OE185383

So after checking the stator and everything its within specs,I still haven't cleaned the carbs but I did notice when I was giving it gas that it was missing and popping through the exhaust, I'm just wondering if my plugs are fouled out or if it is a lack of fuel.I'm gonna take the carbs off tomorrow and clean them
