I have a 120hp v4 93evin. For about the last 2 years the motor has began to slowly die when at low idle unless you choke and gas the throttle. The same had to be done to engage shifter and get on plane. Yet it ran with the right balancing act. Over the last 4-5 months the r.p.m.'s had to be tacked up before going into gear, it would then pick up and run fine. This happened when hot or cold. Most recently the motor will run at idle when first put on the lake, but dies when shifter is engaged. Then it makes a high WHINING noise that I can't trace the source!!!! It happens after the motor dies due to engaging shifter, and will last for several seconds after the motor dies. It sounds like something under pressure: (high pitched)??? Does anyone have an answer to this whining sound? I feel like that is the problem since the dying when shifter engages problem started at the same time. I have traced the fuel lines, seem o.k., tore down and cleaned carbs. o.k, disassembled fuel pump it's o.k., plugs are firing fast nice and blue, compression tests 130lb. on all four cylinders. Please, any help would be appreciated. Fishing is my life and I have spend hundreds on empty repair bills. I need help!

Very typical symptoms of dirty carbs. Just remember, if a cylinder or 2 (or 4) aren't getting fuel they aren't getting oil either.

thanks so much for your time to reply. I took the carbs completely apart and cleaned. Blew everything with air nozzle through jets. I'm sure there must be steps I missed if the problem persists. What advice would you give that would further solve this dirty carb. dilemma?
