My 120 HP E-Rude keeps blowing starter fuses (20 amp). The tilt/trim works until I turn the key. There is a 3" to 4" wire with a rectangular male connector hanging below the powerhead at the engine's fulcrum point. Is that a problem? Where does it go- I can't find where it connects?

Does it blow the fuse when you actually attempt to activate the starter or as soon as you turn the ignition to the "on" position ? This will help with the next step. Let us all know.

u have a short some where in there
follow the wires from the stater solenoid and look for chaffed wires or bad grounded wires

after that check key switch for corrosion and bad/loose grounds

Unless it is actually when trying to start up. Thats why I asked the question whether it was when the ignition switch was turned to the "on" position or whether it blew the fuse when trying to activate the starter. The starter could be seized up or taking too much power when activated. I am not disagreeing with your answer by saying this as it could very well be what you say. My neighbour had the same thing with his jet ski and it turned out to ne the starter taking too much current. Without knowing when it blows the fuse it makes it more difficult to diagnose.

It blows as soon as I turn the key. No electricity ever reaches the starter. I jumped the starter staight from the battery and it turned easily however the battery was'nt strong enough at that time to cause the starter gear to rotate upward and engage the powerhead gear.

Now I am on the same page as JUSTINTIME after hearing that. Got to be a short out somewhere in the system.

THe wire is most likely for a trim guage.

Look for chafed wires, under the hood, as mentioned.

Also look for loose connections at the ignition switch. If one is loose and touches another, it will blow that fuse.
