I have a 1986 Force 50 hp and I cleaned out the carb and set the float to parallel to the body flange and now fuel spits out of the main jet. Any idea on this. I am having the problem with the motor idling fine but then low rpm when in gear. If I pull out the neutral button on the controls it will rev it up in neutral.

Also I pulled the fly wheel to search down an igintion problem. Do I need to reset the timing. If so what is the process. I have done it on a car before but never an outboard. If there is one thing good that has come out of buying this boat and motor is how to work on my outboard.

Re: 12Footer help

Did you follow proper flywheel removal and install procedure As described in the manual?
If you didn't disturb the timing adjustment timing should be correct.
My manual indicates correct point setting is .015 should be done as accurately as possible. .0015 error will change timing 1 degree.
Double check your carb for clean and proper float operation.
With the carb inverted the float valve should be closed.
Not just appear closed but prove closed.
Manual does not say parallel with body it says opposite from pivot normal bottom of float should be 13/32 from the gasket surface when inverted.
If gas comes out when squeezing the primere bulb then the float isn't closing properly.

Re: 12Footer help

I didnt really mess with anything in there. I used the recommended puller and just removed the flywheel and check that none of the wires were grounding or damged and checked that the points were clean. I used a torgue wrech when I put it back on and went to 80 pounds. I definately do not want to mess with the timing if I dont have too,
