12s12 or 12s13..

I finally got back to tinkering with it. I checked for spark on both cylinders, top was strong, bottom was very weak although it popped me pretty good holding the spark plug boot. I figured the connection in the boot was bad, so i replaced it. Spark was good after that. I thought i had been running it on one cylinder before. When i pulled the spark plugs, the top was very dry and the bottom real wet.

Running the motor, it ran better than my previous video, a lot more stable. I thought it was running good then i revved it up in gear, and get this screeching sound. The motor revs up as well, so i am tying the screeching noise with a cylinder going on and off.

I pulled the bottom spark boot, and the motor died. Started the motor again and pulled the top boot, and there was no reaction from the motor.

I noticed the oil line leaking, it appears to be gas. I will have to seal that up, but i don't think that is my biggest problem, or is it?

Putting two and two together, and i am convinced that somehow i am not getting fuel to the top cylinder, at least in very short spurts. I am very confident that i have good spark on both cylinders. Compression is 70psi on both cylinders

What should i be looking at? intake manifold, intake ports, oil line?

i have a video of all this, waiting for it to upload...

Still got compression on that top cylinder?

yeah i do, and when i pulled the spark plug it was bone dry

just checked the compression with the rewind starter, still getting 70psi.

i also ran it briefly with the top boot off, put another spark plug in, held it to the crankcase and was getting a consistent white spark.

If F_R is stumped on this i don't know what to say!

It is almost as if the lower cylinder is getting 90%+ of the fuel/air

Re: 12hp Gale Buccaneer update

There is only one way that can happen. Busted reed or something stuck under it.

No, two ways. Hole in crankcase. That's why I asked if it still has compression.

Are you 100% sure it has good spark on that top cylinder? Good spark will jump a 1/4" gap. Have you checked the coils? I wouldn't even monkey with one of those motors without doing that step. I saw you grab hold of that top boot. That often will shock the pee out of you unless it is a nice new one. You did try swaping the upper and lower plugs, didn't you?

i am 100% sure. IF you dont remember i rebuilt this motor so everything under the flywheel is new, set correctly, and i replaced the boot on the bottom after figuring it did not create a very good connection. It's funny you say it will shock the pee out of me, trust me it did a few times.

I will add that when i rebuilt it, i had to remove a bunch of carbon from the exhaust ports, it was almost an 80% blockage. I don't know, maybe there is a bunch of carbon buildup on the intake ports. it sounds impossible to me so im probably stretching om that one. I will take the reed plate out tomorrow and takes pics of any damage and how it was installed

This is the EXACT same symptom for my 15, spark, compression- all was good, bottom cylinder was soaked. Could be that the reeds are stuck on that cylinder on your motor.

yeah, i initially thought it was the bottom cylinder not firing because the plug was so wet

Re: 12hp Gale Buccaneer update

inspected the intake manifold and reeds. they check out. I checked the spark again. Bottom cylinder jumps a 1/4 inch gap, top cylinder only jumps a 1/8th gap, just eyeballing these. I don't have a gap tester. I still don't understand why the top spark plug is so dry if it's not firing

took the bypass cover off and the top cylinder is wet, looks like unburnt fuel. I guess this could cause that oil line to leak with all this unburnt fuel? i have no idea how oil separates in pre-mix 2-strokes
