My 1989 yamaha 130 surges at any speed above 4000 rpm. below 4000 it runs ok. I recently had the carbs cleaned ( because of water in fuel) it ran fine for a couple of trips. I removed as much of the old fuel as possible and installed a racor water seperator with a clear bowl and drain. I still get a little water at the racor but drain it off. do you think I may have water in the carbs again? the filter on the motor does not have any water in it. or is this a possible fuel pump problem? thanks

Re: 130 yamaha surges

We service fuel pump diaphrams at 200 to 250 hours. Very common problem on a Yamaha but cheap to fix. I would pull the brass plug on the bottom of the carbs to see if any water comes out. You don't want to break that plug/high speed jet. Righty tighty lefty loosey. go easy with the plug/jet it's brass and they break real easy. There is a crush ring on them to seal them. Don't lose that either.

I ordered a fuel pump for it and plan on taking out the high speed jets and cleaning them. does anyone have any other ideas?

In addition to whats already been suggested you might check the connections in the fuel line for leaks. But I'm guessing the fuel pump and carb cleaning will do it.
