Re: 14' Larivee restore
Well, today, 3rd day off & still no flip. For something that takes about 90seconds, sure is hard to coordinate. Today was just not a good day. After "wasting" (translation-frustration at level orange) the last 2 days, I crawled out from my cave this morning, arranged 4 he-man-woman-haters to be at my house at 5:30p.m., & promptly decided not to waste the day. "I'll cut the transom out since I can't work on the cap until the flip," I said. Took me all of about 10minutes. "I should put the engine on & take it down to the canal(4houses away) & run it," I said, so I can make sure the height is good, no cavitation. I'll run it real quick, come back, take the engine off, resin, glass....be done by 5:30 for the flip. Uhhhh-yeah.....that's where I should've stopped. Good news, I was able to find some complete stranger at the boat ramp (Jose!!!) to help me put the engine on, so my back is still good. Yup, that's the only good news of the day. In one rushed breath, here goes.....so I got the engine on, had to move 2 boats to get this one out of the back yard(love the golf cart), went to the boat ramp, got her off the trailer, pushed away from the ramp & the rope broke while on just the second pull trying to start the engine, so I luckily had put an oar in & was able to get back to the ramp, so I took her over to the Merc guy around the corner to show off the boat, let him see the engine, & get another rope, then went a block further to my welder/fabricator buddy to let him see the progress, & after leaving his shop, looked in mirrors & all of a sudden couldn't see the boat, why??? because one of the bunks, you know the ones with brand new hardware, apparently weren't tight enough because it just rolled right over, so the hull that I just spent the last 4 months sanding & gelling to my perfection was now resting on the fender of the trailer, so I unhooked the trailer where she sat (pretty much in the middle of a busy road), & went back to my buddies shop, got a couple guys, who lifted that side of the boat so I could lay in the biggest bunch of stickers where my backside was off the road, to loosen the bolts further so I could twist the bunk back upright, then retighten, with success only to get back home, fix the pull-start rope, take back to the ramp again, only to have it not start, as if float or needle was stuck, so back home, tear carb apart AGAIN which I now believe should be an Olympic event that I would surely medal in, clean & back together, back to ramp, she runs(for now).....WHEW(deep breath)!! I guess I forgot another silver lining: (a)I only cried twice today & (b)I only told one lady to f*%*-off in the parking lot when I picked my daughter up from work! The day ended with an as promised 5:30 flip & tomorrow, can only get better! So how was your day?
