Thanks Gus...how's the wing doing? Still giving you fuss? Hey Sam...strange you said that about the staining. As you know, I/we did the son's boat a couple yrs ago & rolled it. It, too, stains quite easily. I spent the afternoon looking thru your thread, specifically when you gelled the deck (around December of 2012). I didn't see any mention of any "sealer" but I also nodded off a few times with my finger heavy on the scroll down button! Let me know if you come up with anything on that sealer or maybe I should just start a thread about that. Although not many of us roll gel, it would be helpful to know if there is a product to help those of us that do. Many "roll" gel in a bilge and let's face it, that area is more prone than ever to staining. Anyways....hope your wknd was good. Maybe some of the gel officianados will chime in here. Cheers....

Happy 4th wknd to all...Hope it includes some funnin', boatin', and grillin' for most of you. Just a quick update & couple of questions. I have reached my "deadline" of getting all but deck done before the thumb-itis is taken care of on Tuesday. Both sides(gunwhales) are gelcoated. I noticed after doing the starboard side that the port is very shiny. I'm thinking I put too much wax into the last coat of the shiny side. Too late now, but would like to know. Any thoughts? Depending on recovery of thumb, just need a little sanding and then the deck. Bigger project than the casting deck & difficult just because I can't be in the boat to finish it. Short wingspan, but I'll get it. You guys got any ideas on where to look for a bow light? I was hoping to go somewhat vintage without breaking the bank too much. There is a place down south from me, closer to Gus, called Sailorman I've been told to check. Besides evil-bay, any other options you vintage guys know? Just would like some hardware that doesn't meet the "ordinary" critieria. Pics as usual.....enjoy the rest of the wknd!!

As for doing the deck I did mine from inside after the first coat tacked up a bit i bought a 3 mil tarp for 5 bucks laid it over stern end up to where I was working or could reach and pulled it back with me. Tarp didn't seem to stick much

you know Gus....I'm not sure. Just don't want to settle for some generic Wally World bow light that any and everybody has. I've heard good stuff about Sailorman. Kinda like the one minch has offered if I can either paint or rechrome. I think Sam did that on his mfg(painted I think). I have pm'ed minch so as not to break any forum rules. I would be up for anything that has that vintage feel to it. Thanks for the kind words....Let ya know how it goes & if I'm able to get to Sailorman.

How would one go about prepping something like minch's bow light? Just sanding? Hoping Sam will chime in here. Saw he painted his bow light with a rustoleum product(s). White would look great for bow hardware and light. Not sure if this is factory or rechromed. Would prep be the same? Just take it down to bare and spray?

Mine was originally coated with some type of plastic coating . I peeled all that off then prepped and used the rusto self etching primer then some reg high build primer . On the finish I used appliance epoxy . Rusto I think . Has held up so far but time will tell .
Not sure about painting over the chrome . I would think it would need to be scruffed up pretty good to get the paint to stick ..

Best way to paint anything that is chromed is to sand it, media blast it, grind it and wire wheeling the finish to give it some tooth, then you can fill any imperfections, prime and paint...
Here is a couple of links on how others have done it...
http://forums.mightycarmods.com/showthread.php?15684-How-to-paint-over-chrome
http://www.ehow.com/how_4422511_paint-over-chrome-surface.html
If you have it re-chromed, they do something similar except they use different types of soluble metals, [ copper, antimony, lead, silver, nickle, etc.] to fill in any imperfections before re chroming...
I'll keep an eye out for a vintage fixture...similar to us...;)...

Just home about an hour ago from fixin' the thumb. All went well. Still numb so haven't dove into the happy meds yet. Went to Sailorman after the surgery...not too impressed. Didn't have a thing I was looking for. More like a nautical crap yard to me. So...unless Gus comes up with any hardware, think I'm gonna see if minch can let go of that bow light he offered. Oh, and did a little iboats shopping yesterday. Noticed they were offering a discount to forum members for all the tweaks since the upgrades. For just under a Benjamin, I got a keelguard and they threw in a free scuffbuster for just above the bow eye. Should be here next wk. Take a little time off for healing & back at it soon. Gonna try to get this girl in the H20 before Aug. 1.

Damn straight girl, We Be Vintage! That right there ain't fightin words, those be mighty high praisin words...
Vintage is a quality product that only gets better with age, and you bet your bottom dollar, we are vintage to the bone...
Just sent out my feelers for that "vintage" bow light...give me a few days to round up my resources and I'll let you know if I stumble upon anything...
Keep your thumb warm and happy and let it heal up good and right!

Another one of my boat buds asked for a bit more info on what type/size bow light you would like to have...
If you get a chance, look through some bow light images on google and pick out some that appeal to you and I'll send them to him...
