Re: Purchased : Starcraft Holiday 14' !! NOW CRAPPY Cell pics !
Thought about purchasing plastic fenders for 20 bucks a piece at tractor supply. Would have looked real sharp once done but then i thought about how much money i spent today on parts and supplies for this and i decided a litttle free elbow grease, hammering back to shape and paint would be much cheaper. Heck like my dad always says, " I'm not building a church here ".
Price check so far.
Boat and trailer together $260
new winch at walmart with strap $26.71
new tractor supply axle, ubolt kit and extra bolts for trailer winch riser $140.46
2" coupler at walmart $19.98
tow chain $19.48 ( going to return and get cheaper at tractor supply )
2 qts rustoleum rusts top paint/primer, 2 qts semi gloss white at walmart $25
submergeable trailer kit at walmart $28 ( also on sale at tractor supply for $20 so im returning tomorrow)
2 5 hole rims and tires at walmart $35 a piece plus tax.
So im in for about $595 so far and have some money comin back from walmart. I'll have everything i need to complete trailer. My dad donated 2 pressure treated 2x4's for the bunks.
What i need to complete trailer:
1. carpet to cover bunks
2. wire clips for neat wire job
3. 1/2" and 3/4" rubber grommets for thru frame wire job ( holes already present )
4. new keel roller as the front keel roller has a dry rot gouge in it that is nasty.
I have to admit, i did buy some 3m scotchpad type rust wheels for my angle grinder but i have found the cheap steel harbor freight wire brush wheel my dad already had mounted to the angle grinder works perfectly fine so i'll be bringing those back to home depot so i did not include those in the price.
I'll have " after '" pics of the trailer in the next few days. The trailer folds in half, so i took the front half inside the garage and worked on it tonight, tomorrow i have to finish up the front and start on the back. The only thing that will hold me up is not having carpet for the bunks, and i forgot to buy stainless steel staples for the bunks.
I'd like to replace the springs and found them for $20 a piece at tractor supply but even tho these are vintage 1977, they are only rusty and seem structurally fine so i'll just wire wheel them and coat them with some black undercoating or something.
The work is going fast. I'm happy. When time comes to paint, i'll either brush on or ask a buddy to borrow his paint gun and try to spray it myself. I hope to maybe get him to invest a couple hours for me to paint it for me himself. I have no experience, however how hard can it be. You can thin rustoleum in the can up to 5 % with acetone and have at it . Again i'n not building a church or painting a ferrari .. it does NOT have to be super pretty just look good.
I'll catch up tomorrow. I'm dead tired.
