HI every one, such a great forum here, made me like my Chrysler more...
Please excuse my English...
I live in Dubai and I buy a boat imported from US. It was used here with someone but now its not running since a year. the Engine is Chrysler 140hp with 2 fuel pumps.
The previous owner said it was running with a Motorola and ignition unit, one day was not sparking so he replaced with CDI#115-3301 But timing belt broke then he decided to sell the boat. I've done a compression test it was great but No spark.
I buy the timing belt from net, and with reading your posts I was able to do a proper timing (flywheel marks, distributor, belt).
Then with all 3 2 4 blugs grounded as Mr Frank's instructions (many many thanks to him).
No spark from 1. after a closer inspection I found a missing linkage (adjustable) between the distributor and timing column!!! and CDI wiring is strange, there is only 3 wires blue, white, and gray. there is no red!! I can fabricate the linkage for adjusting distributer, but what to do with CDI??
Love this motor, would like to hear its loudy run. HELP PLEASE

Re: 140 HP 80's NO START

The original Motorola Cd box did use red, blue, white and grey. The red was constant power from the terminal board and charged the internal capacitors. The blue was from the terminal board through the ignition switch and powered the electronics. White was signal to the CD box and grey was power out from the CD box to the coil.

I have never trouble-shot the CDI aftermarket CD box. However, it appears that blue is still power to the box, grey is power out to the coil and white is signal to the CD box.

SO: If you have no spark, first examine the CD box closely to see if there was a red that was cut off. Then, if it did not ever have a red wire, on the other side of the engine, at the terminal strip, jumper red to blue. This bypasses the ignition switch and supplied power to he CD box directly from the battery. If you do get spark now, either you have a bad ignition switch, the wires are connected incorrectly to the switch, or there is a break in the wiring.

For your engine, blue should be connected to the "I" terminal of the switch

To test the CDI box go the CDI ignition . com
They have test procedures for their system.

Re: 140 HP 80's NO START

Many thanks Frank and Jerry, I'll go to my boat after 2 days, I'll do check every thing.
from engine board there is one blue wire going to the distributor, so I'll connect the other blue wire from the CDI to the same in board. and what about the nut on the CDI (photo) can I connect the ground here?
No workshop here able to work on those motors. Only Yamaha, Mercury, Jonson, and Suzuki.

Thanks again

The ground needs to be on the motor if possible.
The plate you show in the pic. It has rubber shock mounts, not a good ground.

No spark and when I connect blue wire to power source (red) there was a sound coming out from CDI but No spark...
I'm not shore of the wiring...
something else, when blugs in.. engine don't rotate even with a running car charging!!!! only few centimeters.
blugs out rotate very easy.. is this normal or starter motor is week?

That could be a bad starter? You can clean it? Or it could be a bad powerhead? Low compression on 1 or more cylinders will do that.
Do a compression test. It's plugs, not blugs:)
