If they are (steam cleaned) the water may be getting into the combustion chambers. Also check around the plug recesses.Mercs of this era are known for corroding water covers and exhausts.<br />But they are a fine motor... <br /><br />BTW What part of Oz you from ?? <br />Hope you have better luck this summer.<br />Anyway.. back the the Merc.. The exhaust cover and the head water cover can be easy to replace as long as you don't break bolts. I am told that you will.. This means powerhead removal and drilling and tapping in new ones. There will be no problems using the Steel putty, as a fellow iboater has used it with success.
