G'day I have a 1982 inline 6 140HP Mercury, my question is can you change the 140 to a 150 by just changing the 3 carbies (a local marine mechanic told me this was the case) Are there members of this forum group that can advise on the accuracy of this statement.
Thanks in advance.

Re: 140 to 150 HP

Hi there, OZ

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (and that happens on occasion), but I think the '82 140s and 150s were two completely different blocks. Theoretically, I suppose you could make the upgrade but I think the cost could be much more than what the engine is worth itself. Plus, most experts here will tell you that it takes much more than carb exchanges to beef up an engine, ie: port timing, jetting, reeds, etc... Besides, those 140s, if I remember correctly, were fine engines.
