I just got a 15 hp evenrude im not sure on the year but i believe it's somewhere in the 80's. The problem that i have been having is that it is hard to start and once its started it burns the plugs out at full throttle after only a few minutes.

Any help at all would be greatly aprieciated.

What do you mean by "burned out"? Are the electrodes gone? Are they carboning up? We'll need a bit more info before moving ahead...

- Scott

I am using the proper plugs for the motor. They do not gum up, they simply burn the elctrode in the plug. The motor does not have a power pack or computer.

Could it be a short in the wiring.

Better post your serial number so we can find the year. 77+ Johnsons have power packs (CDII ignition modules).

The pre '77 ones use a different plug too. Are you saying you have Champion QL77JC4 gapped at .030" or the optional Champion L78V surface gaps in there? If the former, is it the ground electrode that's burning off? Specifics are important.

model 15604a
serial c 62266

I had a look at the plugs that were in it and it turns out that they were the wrong plugs. I had been told they were the right ones but the case of the motor says otherwise.

On the case it says to use champion ul8ij.

Would that be my best bet.
