I have a 89 15hp evinrude, starts great, idles fine, even trolls all day. and sometimes runs great at high speed. The problem is it may run at high speed for 5-10 minutes then cuts right out. pull choke starts again may run fine the rest of day or happen 10 more times. Don't have the faintest of clues. Plese help.
Tony

Next time it quits and won't restart, check each plug wire for spark. Use a spark tester. You should be able to get about 7/16" to 1/2" of strong blue spark from each wire.

You may have a bad power pack that craps out when it gets hot, or maybe a bad coil that breaks over or shorts out when hot. Could even be bad spark plug wires or a bad spark plug that shorts out.

Others have recommended blowing a hot hair dryer on the power pack while running the engine to see if you can duplicate your problem. Try this at your own risk. If you lose spark when the power pack is heated, it points to a bad power pack.

Lastly, go here to read a lot of great info on the 9.9/15 HP motors.

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000034

Good luck, and post back with what you find.

Kev
