15 pitch prop vs 89 mercruiser vs 77 will it fit?

I have a 1977 caravelle 18.5 ft with 250 cid six cylinder and a merc outdrive. I saw for sale on ebay a prop off a 1989 wellcraft with same same motor. Will that prop fit on mine with that many years between outdrives? I have a turning point (hustler) 19 pitch on my boat right now. Will going that much smaller pitch be a huge issue. The big red search shows 200 rpm per pitch of prop. Last year I thought I might have been a touch overproped as the only way I could get my wot was by trimming out and that would get me 4000 rpm and a even @ 40mph. I use the boat to pull tubers and skiers exclusively. The prop is near give away price and listed as freshly rebuilt and has no bids. Looked like a cheap way to get a spare prop and try a smaller pitch. Thoughts?

The prop will fit with a hardware change, but the engine will overrev by ABOUT 1000 RPM

so am I over propped now or should I have to trim out to get to 4000 rpm.

Any prop that fits 1 will fit another,....<br />V6 Outboards....<br />Pre-Alphas<br />Alphas<br />Bravo Is<br /><br />As long as it's the Large Gearcase 4 1/2"s....<br />The propshafts are All the Same....<br />There Are different Thrust Hubs.....<br /><br />With that I6, I think you'd be happier with a 17",...I think that motor is most comfortable at 4200rpms..... <br />But, a Cheap 15" will Really Wake-Up your boat when Tubing,+ Skiing......

Thanks for the help. I think I will pass on the 15 on ebay and order a 17 from hustler. I put one of there set ups on last year and it seemed to work well, going from a 19 to 17 should make it even better yet. The difference in price will only be about 20.00 and that should be money well spent
