Picked up a Johnson TD 15 from a scrap collector.See my post in the non repair section.
What is the the large oval head screw on the port side of the leg.
Not a vent.It appears it should go close to all the way across the leg.
Presently head sticks out about 1/2 an inch. I feel I need to take it out and line something up so it will thread through.I just don't want to remove it and have something go sproing!! I have a TD owners manual but no reference to the screw.

I'm not too familiar with those motors, but I think that screw holds the lower unit to the driveshaft housing.

Would a TD-20 parts manual be of use to you? I suspect they are pretty much the same.

Yes, the screw holds the lower unit to the driveshaft housing. There is a slot in the housing that it rides in. Someone may have loosened it enough that things are pulled apart a bit...
