Wondering what to do. My 2007 150 E-TEC started knocking at roughly 80 hours. Dealer got a new powerhead installed with no warranty extension from the factory. After 10-15 hours on the new powerhead it started knocking again. Back to the shop for the 2nd time in two months. My problem is that in northern Minnesota the season is pretty short and most of my last year on my warranty is spent broke down and the factory doesn't seem to worried about giving me any warranty extension. Any thoughts on what channel to take with BRP. Next time I run this motor I will be out of warranty next spring. Maybe get 5 hours out of the next one!

Re: 150 E-TEC knocking

If it's the same problem over and over again I'd suspect something other than the powerhead is causing the problem. The powerhead is just the result. Is it being installed/was it installed (when the motor was new) by a factory authorized installer? I have heard the E-TEC's must be installed and rigged, then programmed by the selling dealer or at least an authorized installer.
If it's the same problem again and again, I think I'd be looking into lemon laws on it.

Re: 150 E-TEC knocking

The first was on a brand new motor. The second was installed at the dealership. Now it appears that another one is in order. The second was not a dressed powerhead so I am guessing that the problem is something hanging on it. Not the first one like this that I have heard of. It was double oiling for the 10 hours and when the oil consumption cut back, the knock started soon after.

Original setup and follow up work has been done by a factory authorized dealer in business for 40 or so years. so they are a very reputable dealer. Just seems their hands are tied when it comes to warranty issues.

Your dealer should be sticking up for you in this case! Talk to the owner, if you haven't already.
