150 Lower Unit-Clunking Noise

I have 1982 Merc 150 that runs really well. Unfortunately my throttle control has a realy hard spot in it. while running at WOT a fishing net flew out of the boat and a friend who was driving panicked a bit and backed off the throttle quick and hard. Problem is he went all the way into reverse. Motor still runs fine and has both forward and reverse but I can hear something clunking around in there. Has anyone experienced this before and can you tell me what might be flying around in there and what the fix Might be. Thanks

I you suspect anything floating about in your lower lube you should drain it immediately and flush it out with more lube. Keep your old lube in a dish where you can inspect which bits are falling off.
