150 runners not in sync.

I'm have a problem with my 1997 ocean runners, It seem that the port motor is running about 200 RPM. higher then the starboard motor Idle seems to be the same and upon the launch to get on plane its higher and I'm having to fight the controls to counter this issue. Can anyone tell me if this is just a cable adjustment or the passable cause/fix thanks any info will help!!!

Make sure the timing roller pickups are the same, just touching the cam.
Remove the 3 screw round cover to get at them.

will this just sync my throttle position without changing my timing advance ?
