$$$ value is determined by a potential buyer, not the seller.

I've seen people pay a lot more for something of a lot less value.

I wouldn't let my 1966 folding Lightwin go for twice that price.

I've been watching that one all week. There was 1956 lightwin on there for $1500, but when no one bid he dropped it to $200 and relisted. I see that one too has ended without a bid. Here is the auction link. Don't know if it'll come up now that its over.

i'm not an outboard collector (more of an accumulator) but i know in camera the the seriel # can sometimes drastically change the value. for you collectors out there is there anything special about this one?

If you look at the guy's feedback, he has been selling mostly movie memorabilia. My guess is that he knows little or nothing about outboard motors. He has an old ERude that is in very good condition, so he thinks that makes it worth lots of money.

As for the claim that he makes about having been offered $1,500 for the motor, who knows - maybe some fool did offer that to him. My response would be, "if someone offered you you that much money, you'd better RUN to go get it!"
