I can not find anything close to my serial number on all the charts I have found? It is 8052054 and is a inline 6 blue band. Can any one help with this serial number?

There is no good match for your seial number. All 150HP inline sixes have distributor ignition. See if you have the ADI ignition with six coils.

I will guess that you have a 115HP inline 6 from the mid 80s, with an older wrap cowl.

That's a big difference in years?!?:D

I've got a 115hp inline 6, with serial 8072604, I'm suspecting mine is from 1985

Any input??

Cheers
Martin

PS. I'm in Oz too if it makes a difference on the serial number??

Re: 1500 what year?

Actually just found out that with my serial number it cannot be anything but an 1985 engine:

HP | Serial number | Year
115 | 6630171 - A907776 | 1985

I've looked through the engines with "1500" as their horse power, and none have that serial, I'd say Chris1956 is bang on the money, it's a 115HP from 1985, same as mine :)

Re: 1500 what year?

ALL merc serial number that starts with an '8' were made in Australia. The tower of power was in demand and we made thousands. The problem is, nobody (except mercury Australia) thought to keep a database of serial numbers.

A small database is available but it only covers about 30% of all aussie models. Both the 150hp and the 115hp mentioned in this thread is not in the database so a rough estimation is all I can provide (hence the 1976/77 comment).

The 115hp with serial 8072604 will be somewhere in the late 70's.

The only way to nail down an exact year is to give Marine Power International (mercury) a call, they are in the suburb of Dandenong, in the state of Victoria, Australia. (03) 9791 5822. They have an accurate database.

It does not work that way.

A serial number that starts with '6' does not carry through to '8'. The sequence does not jump country borders.

Anything that begins with - 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 were made in the U.S.

7 - Canada
8 - Australia
9 - Belgium.

When letters were introduced, most of the country codes disappeared (especially true for aussie built motors) although Belgium built motors still have a very good database available.

Re: 1500 what year?

Thanks heaps for that phone number :) I rang them up and checked up on both my engine and "ah_fafuxake" engine as well :)

Mine is from 1981 or 1982
"ah_fafuxake" is from 1978 and is a 115HP engine with the 1500 cowling

Re: 1500 what year?

1978 and some 1979 Merc 115s had distributor igntion. Merc 1500 was distributor and discontinued in 1977.
