Well it looks like they have changed the forecast anyhow....now its only going to be in the 40s this weekend....and I would like it to be in the 50's, so I'll just keep plugging away. It also doesn't look like its going to thaw out enough for me to get the paint booth materials down to the shop till this weekend anyhow. Man I am tired of winter! Think I'm going to do more sanding tonight....sand sand sand!

Arch are you going to color sand after painting? Also are you using single stage or clear? Urathane is nice because you can spot paint after and you can color sand it.

I'm using a base clear system...heavy on the clear. Unless I get a sag  or orange peel I won't be color sanding. Hopefully I can get it on pretty slick and just call it good. Just got back in from sanding.....been working on CAD drawing my paint booth. I'm planning on storing it in my barn, so I can used it in the future....trying to figure out the best way to break it down. I'll post some drawings when I get it all figured out!:D

Looking awesome Arch. Your progress makes me want to consider painting mine. I've got a long way to go to catch up to your progress, I just hope when I get there my work looks half as good as yours. Great job man!

Sounds good with the paint booth. How are you going to get the seacast into a small opening? I have a gallon left over if you or anybody is interested for a discounted price.
Can't wait to see the paint video!

Thanks Santo....I'm sure your work will look great, just take your time. Good question on the seacast Mick. I would say I have a brilliant plan, but I think its going to involve drilling and 1" hole and some smaller vent holes....then just grabbing handfuls and stuffing it in. I'll try to get some video, should be entertaining!:D

Yeh- definitely sounds like it is going to be interesting! Make sure you got a couple pair of rubber gloves near by! Hope it works out for you.

Do you have a pic of what your glass looks like that you put on top of your transom? I can't decide how I want to go about it on mine. I have some biax left over but??

Mick how much do you want for that gallon of seacast? my buddy is getting ready to pour his transom and he is going with seacast. He needs 6 gallons, so it might work out he orders 5 and buys the 1 from you.

let me know.

I will try to get some pictures this Saturday, weather permitting (In Seattle, its either going to rain, or its raining). I think you'll agree its the exact same boat. You may also be curious to see what the original upholstery looked like.

So you like the old Merc "tower of power"? I'm not a mechanic; I just want something dependable. So I'm probably going to end up giving away mine, plus controls, if I can find anyone who wants them. I'm pretty sure I'm going to shell out 10k on an Evinrude E-TEC 90.

Wow I go out and spray gelcoat and your thread took off. I would just build 2x4 walls and staple plastic to them, then bolt them together so you can take it apart.
You always get some orangepeel no matter how good you are.

Hello All,
I'll throw my 2 cents in here too. PVC makes quick work of a paint booth and tears down very compact.cover it in plastic.

I have toyed with both of those ideas....I also have a bunch of old chain link fence top rail....I have a couple ideas on how I could use that too. Should be interesting to see what I come up with!

Isaac- Check your pm- I sent you a message about the seacast.
Archbuilder- you got that booth started yet? Or did you get the seacast in your tight spots. I've been thinking about it and I don't think you need the vent holes, especially if it is a small area- they won't hurt though to have them.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

thanks guys. I have been swamped the last couple of days, but I did manage to sneak up to Tulsa for the boat show this afternoon.....Wow they had some cool ones! I picked up a couple of ideas for the interiors. I have a board meeting tomorrow till 2, then its back to the boat. The weather is going to suck again, so I'm going to work on the paint booth and touching up a few things on the bottom.

The pvc paint booth works, see my thread. But be warned it does like to generate humidity when you are inside. If you put a fan in the side it will either blow out the plastic or suck it in depending where you put it. You can pick up one of those cheapo AC filters at home depot and put it into the paint booth "wall", one the opposite wall a cheapo box fan (also with a filter if you have a less than spotless shop).

We are sanding sanding sanding too. My arms are complete jello once again. Looking forward to see your paint job!

The filter / fan set up is more or less what I'm planning. The framing is what I'm putting the most thought into. I would like it modular, so that I can make it smaller for use on small projects in the future...or larger projects. I also want it to be easy to assemble, and store. I may end up making a PVC frame, or wood, or thing wall metal pipe....or more than likely a combination of them.

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

I checked the boat for chips and or minor stuff that needed fixed today in the sunlight (first time we have had any in forever) and found a couple little things. I also found a spot on port side that was really wavy....I have no idea how I missed it...but it need fixeds ....so more body work just when I thought I was done! The good news is everything else looks good to go. I worked on it some tonight, then came up to the house to work on the paint booth plans. I want to pick up the materials for that tomorrow before the next storm moves in on Sunday. I just about have it drawn up, just need to get a materials list worked up. I also got a call from the mechanic that I'm buying the motor from. He has all of the title work cleared up and will be putting it on a stand so I can see it running sometime next week. :D

Hey archbuilder,
Man, you are just full of good news and bad news. I'm glad to hear about the motor and I hope that all goes well with that. I'm also sorry to hear about the extended body work, but like you sad, it's better to fix it now.
