165 hp steury mercruiser engine help!

Hello, i new to this forum and i have a few questions...

First, I just had the engine rebuilt, i need to know high and low oil pressure, average running temp. and redline rpms.
Also what is the best recommendation for oil to use.
If no one can help can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you.d:)

if it's a L6 250 cid chevy. a 165 hp mercrusier.
to the best of my knowledge,
oil pressure spec. is 30-55 psi @ 2K rpm
operating temp. 'typicaly' would be 140-160* F for rwc. and fwc would be 160-180*F.
wot 3900-4300 rpm.

the 'best' oil to use will be debateable i think. personaly i use mercruiser 25W-40.......

steury is the maker of the boat, the boat is a '77

Steury made a very good boat. The marina I worked at as a young man sold them.

4300 RPM is tops for the I-6.

A 15" X 15" "elephant ear" MerCruiser prop works well with most applications of the I-6.

As I recall, that drive has a rather high gear ratio.

The gear ratio is easy to remember for the 165, it's 1.65: 1 and the only Alpha type drive that had timing marks for the upper gears.
