At the park where I work we have 5 2017 15HP Merc 4stroke outboards. These motors are rentals and only have 20-50 hours on them.
The problem we are having is the tiller shift, you turn the throttle one way for forward and the other for reverse, they are getting very hard to put in reverse. All linkage and cables are lubricated, but it just gets worse. Once in gear the throttle turns easily, just difficult going into gear.
We had 5 older motors of the same design and they were the same way, as time went by they got harder to shift.
A call to Merc tech support was no help, just said take it to your local dealer. Well....we have no "local" dealer.
Has anyone ran across this and have any ideas for a remedy?
Thanks, Jeff
