:) I have a175hp Mercury 1985. When I trying to pull a skier out of the water I give full throttle but the engine hesitates for a few seconds ten picks up the power and goes ok.

As allways, I'll have to suggest a good dousing with Seafoam. Put the seafoam in the gas tank, and then while the motor is idling spray the aerosol version (deep creep) through the carbs.

Mainly with skier, but does similar without skier, just the lag is a little less drag

may want to check the needle and seat that control
the float level in the fill bowl. could be some
crud in there. if you have not done a carb rebuild
in a long time, is a good idea to get done. faulty
carb can cause a lean condition and burn a piston
pretty quickly.
I had 2 props for my outboard, one for speed and
one with better bite for skiing/tubing.
good luck,
M.Y.

just a thought......
has your carbs got limiting caps on the idle mixture screws? little white plastic caps with a portion raised???
have you caught one with your cleaning.......
one at a time......
take off the plastic cap.....
turn screw clockwise until it seats...GENTLY!!!!!
and count number of turns in.
Now turn each out the same amount to reset each screw.
Put limiting cap back on each in the position it was..........
now do some thinking.......
they should be all the same approximately say 1 to 1.5 turns out.......as a rough guide.
If they are all over the place between 1 to 3 then thats your problem.... start at all set to 1.25 and work out from there. you sound too lean..... turning outwards makes it richer.
start with the simple things then get complicated

ZmOz , this may sound silly but when I went into my local boat shop and asked for Seafoam they said they had never heard of it. Please can you advise if there is a brand name or an alternative?

go to your local auto parts store. most of the time they have SeaFoam or they can get it. I can go to any of the 3 in my small town and can get it at any of them.
