Hi all,
I really don't know a lot about boats, my husband and I just got our first little 14' trophy, with a 50h evenrude. We really like it but have found the weather has to be perfect to take it out, with that heavy motor and all. and 4 people is just to many. We don't have a whole lot of money to be buying a larger boat, but we have found a fixer uper. It is a 19' very deep hauled campion (older) with a 130 OMC in/out. but is has been sitting for at least a year. ( but it was running fine when he parked it) the interior is hosed ( witch I think I could fix) but my husband was worried about how long it has sat for. Oh and it dosen't come with a tailer witch I have been told could get really expencive for a 19'. Is and OMC 130 under powerd for that size of boat? what do you think of OMC? Oh ya we could probble get it for $800.
thanks for any opinions in advance,
Mitch

At htat price he is buying a fixer-upper for sure. I think that OMC will push that hull great. But it is a heavy affair,so the trailer will be twin axle and pricey. Also, consider your tow vehicle. Minimum of a small block V8 van,SUV, or pickup.
As for what he is geting into as far as repairs, who knows?
Pay very close attention to the transom and fiberglass. Look for any cracks in the glass, and manhandle the outdrive to see if it moves the transom at all. If it does, you'll probably find a rotted core.

The fuel system will give you grief,as will the impeller....anything rubber. So figure on replacing them, alond with rebuilding the fuel pump (rubber diaphram). These should not set you back too much, and are easy enough to do with the book handy.

Walk on the deck, and note any spongy areas.
This will indicate rot which you'll need to replace.

A project boat is actually fun...Not when you are fixin her up, but after, when you reap the benifits of your greenbacks and labor. What a sense of accomplishment!
