Re: 1915 Evinrude questions

A few of my other restored motors. I plan on starting on my 1926 Ruddertwin next. Pictured here are my '27 Lockwood, '47 Merc Rocket and '28 Johnson. DSC_4873.jpgDSC_4864.jpgDSC_4870.jpgDSC_4092.JPGDSC_3928 (Medium).JPG

Your Mercury is spectacular! I got my start into this form of insanity with a KD-4(S) when it was only ten years old. Any more?

I get the wires and connectors on Ebay, they have a great assortment of vintage cloth plug wire, connectors etc. I really like the cloth covered colored wires, I think they add a certain look to the motors.

Did a little more work today. Disassembled the magneto, cleaned it up, tested the coils, polished the exposed parts, soldered new wires on and reassembled and installed it. Working on polishing the flywheel and should have it ready to go tomorrow. These pics will greatly enlarge if you click on them. DSC_5558.jpgDSC_5565.jpgDSC_5567.jpgDSC_5538.jpgDSC_5546.jpg

Very close to being completed. Waiting for the decals and I'm working on the prop. A true labor of love. The gas tank took about a month of on and off work. Had to cut a hole in the back to remove the dents and then weld it back in. Had to hand make the wooden starter knob. Took the piston out and honed the cylinder. Rebuilt the carb. New plug wire and ignition wire soldered in. Lots of polishing of course. I don't plan on putting gas in it although it has great compression and good spark. I know it will run, no sense in gumming it up.
