I just acquired a 4434 Fleetwin motor. I cleaned the carb, replaced the gaskets as well as cleaned the points, reset the gaps etc. On a few of the "newer"(later '50s) there is a pipe that the impellor pumps the water up into. I do not see this on the Fleetwin. When running in the bucket, there is water that us flowing out of the exit hole, but the head gets too warm.(warmer than the 3 second rule) I did not replace the impellor yet, but is there suposed to be a pump tube that feeds up into the block? Or, is the seperate cavity in the tower used to carry the water up into the head?

Thanks for the help,

I have the 1953 version of that motor an no there is no copper tube that feeds water out of the pump into the bottom of the motor. It just gets pushed up the tower. Impeller for that model are difficult to find but can be had. A lot of folks modifiy a later model impeller to fit.

The water lines are cast into the midsection housings.

If water is squirting out the 1/4" hole on the rear, just above the water level, at all speeds, the pump is working. Should be a full stream out the hole.

EDIT: If my memory is correct, the head is not water cooled, except for around the edges. The center area around the spark plugs gets pretty hot. There is fire in there. Keep your fingers off it.
