Jack...... For what it's worth, the OMC Model Guide lists engine model number 4441 as being a 1951 14hp Evinrude.

The 1952 Evinrude engines in that low hp range are listed as being 7.5hp models numbers which are 4443, 4444, 4447,4448.

I have a "52" and a "53" Fleetwin 7.5. Are there parts available for ignitions, carbs, and impellors available; or parts from other outboards that can be used with or without modifications?

Ignition parts right here at iboats. Other parts are a bit more difficult. Don't ignore Evinrude dealers-you might be surprised. Water pump impellers are NLA. Brian Wilcox makes reproductions, needs your old center hub http://www.chrystine.com/impellers/order.html Carburetor kits http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ other used parts www.aomci.org go to the free want ads page.

A 1951 Fastwin huh? Pretty interesting old motors. I had one back in 1995. They were the first full shift evinrude built, which came out in 1950. The old Johnson QD 10hp which came out in 1949 also had a very similar motor leg and the same lower unit.

Does the 1951 14 hp Fastwin use the universal ignition? It probably does, but if not, you'll have a hard time getting ignition parts at your dealer as they are NLA.

Interesting fact is that the 14 hp was apparently a bit of a dog. That's why its 15 hp replacement in 1953 was called the Super Fastwin.

I picked up the same 14hp engine last year but have not done anything with it yet. If you find any manuals for it, I'd love to get a copy please :)

Yes, as a matter of fact they do. All OMC's from 1951 on to the early '70's used the universal ignitions. So, your 14hp will use the same stuff as the later 18's and 20's.

For most gaskets, unless you get lucky, make friends with a nice pair of sewing scissors and a hole punch. Save the old gaskets as best you can and use them as templates. Or, take pics of them and use the motor castings for the basic shape, then use the pics to draw in the details before cutting.

Good to know. I thought the universal magneto came out in 1950-51 on a few models and became standard on all in 1952.

Steve, I haven't found a 14 hp manual, yet. I've got my eyes open for it and the SD manual.

Well, luckily, I used to have the same motor and I've been inside the ignition, so I know this particular model does. Post some pics. I'd kinda like to see one of those old buggers again.:D
