Just saved a 53 Sea King 5 hp from certain death. Was brought to a scrap yard for the aluminum, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada, and now it is in my garage in perfect running order after I overhauled the ignition system, carb, impellor and lower unit oil.

I have a question. There is a breather tube with nipple. Unused fuel from the crank case seems to drip from here. Being that there is a nipple, I am assuming I could put some sort of tube on it and capture the fuel in a container. The question is, could I recycle this fuel or is that just a bad idea. I'd just hate to polute with it.

Guess you could capture and recycle whatever drips out of the vent tube, but if your carb is adjusted right for rich/lean there won't much to capture. If you use a modern grade TCW-3 marine oil in your fuel mix, you aren't polluting really...the oil is made to biodegrade.

Yeah the more I am think about it, I'm just not going to worry about it. I will only be using it a handful of times through spring/summer/fall.

I never ran one of these brand new but it seems to be running like new. I had to do a little shade tree machining. The needle had a gouge in it. I basically twirled it in between my finger tips with 400 grit sandpaper until the gouge was gone. I used a piece of welding wire to make a gage for the angle off the tapper to make sure I kept that as close as possible. It worked because the lean/rich knob seems to be working. The full range of the misture knob seems to affect the mixture appropriately.

I like these old motors. This is my third. 39 Elto 3hp, 67 Evinrude Lightwin, and now this one. They all run good but, this one seems to run the best so far. It appears to have much less hours.

Yea, I fixed and sold several of those over the years. They're not bad motors, when they're in good running order. It looks like yours is in pretty nice restorable condition though.:D
