1954 big twin carb interchange

picked up a 1954 25 bigtwin to fool around with .good compression all new ignition parts but the darn thing wont start atall,if you shoot gas in her it wil try so thats telling me the carb is dirty or ?i have a 56 30 hp carb that is a know runner and part numbers seem to be the exact same so it stands to reason that they should inter change without and hassel correct?looked up rebuild kits here at iboats and shows the same numbers.

Cool. I'm getting one of those soon, myself. I think you should be okay, by changing carbs, but rebuilding the carb that's on it, should be a sinch.

Different needle valves and throttle. There can't be that much wrong with the one that is on it. Clean it and fix it and it will be OK.

Your right of course FR.Will get the rebuild kit today as i now know that the motor is fine and i suppose that was the real point of my changing over today.Besides ,working on these old relics is fun!,lol.

COOL motors ,though unbolting all those bolt to get the motor cover off is a pain.Mine will need a paint job as she,s seen better days in that department.Will give me an excuse to try out my fancy new paint gun this winter or spring.:)

Yea, these old JohnyRude carbs respond well to a rebuild.

Making sure a needle valve is not busted off, is the main thing.

hows this for a old relic.starts first pull ,cnat wait till spring to try out on my 14 foot woody!

Wow, an antique racer! What model and year?
Thats what the guys at aomic tell me too ,apparently thats a speed lowerunit what ever that means,was told to use grease in her.its a model 6039 either 1939 or 40.picked it up on flea-bay for 92 dollars in my home town .

I love the 6039 Speeditwin! Got a couple of those myself. You've got the "better" lower unit for performance, as the post-war ones had more of a club-foot lower unit - not nearly as sleek...

So Scott do you use grease in the lower unit as it was recommended to me?I ordered the complete manuals last week .Also got to redo the 1954 electric start 25 evinrude this winter,anybody got paint codes or suggestions for colors?
