I combined these topics, kingston, try not to start multiple topics about the same problems. if you got an error message and thought your topic hadn't posted, that's a forum software problem and not on your end. If so sorry for the inconvenience. John

No big mystery about it. The two gears at the tiller "elbow" must be aligned----big tooth in big notch. At the other end at the bevel gears, first tooth engages first notch. After that, everything is automatic. Um......sometimes somebody with Popeye arms will twist it so hard he twists the vertical throttle shaft. You can see that by sighting along the length of it.

Having said all that, the dial plate where it says slow, start, etc. is never correct. Consider it as saying slow is this way, fast is that way. Put the gearshift in neutral, and turn the throttle as far toward fast as it will go (in neutral). That is the correct start position, no matter what it says on the dial plate.

Those dial plates never were accurate.
