Is the throttle and timer base moving properly?

Thinkin you wouldn't even be idling if you were having problems with your reeds.

So when you throttle it ... it only idles? Does the throttle linkage on the carb move? What happens if you give it throttle right from the carb?

B-rich and commander, Thanks fot the advice. The linkage at the end of the tiler handle is not aworking properly. the gear that turns the timer leverworks only by hand not turning with the tiler handle.

Re: 1954 seahorse

Many of the early model small motors had gears between the tiller arm and the motor that would wear out and jump teeth. Also the vertical throttle shaft on the port side has a plastic piece in the bottom that would shear off, which would keep the spark advance plate and throttle from moving - causing a loss of power

Check the two screws at the top of the vertical shaft (armature plate control lever) that holds the control lever bearing clamps. I have a '58 18hp that had loose screws. This prevented the gears from meshing correctly.
