I am doing a total rebuild on this motor and have a few questions. They are as follows:

1) Since I don't have a parts motor, if I am inquiring about used parts can I use any other Evinrude motor or am I limited only to a 1955 BT 25? I will list what I am looking for below in case anybody has any they want to sell.

2) On new parts, where would be the best place to go for Gasket sets and Piston Rings for this motor? A lot of sites I go on, including this one, do not have anything for this year unless I am just not looking in the right place.

3) Is the Air Silencer Accoustical Liner something that needs to be replaced over time and how do you know if it is bad or good? If it does need to be replaced, where would you get something like that?

And last but not least, I am interested if any of you guys or gals would restore (repaint and put new decals on) your old Rude if you had the money and time to or would you keep it in its original state if it is not that faded or beat up? I keep going back and forth on this and just wondered where everybody stands on this.

Here are the parts I need if anybody can help me out:

Clamp Screw, Swivel Plate and Retainer #375747
Exhaust Loading Tube Assembly #376330
Cover Mounting Grommets #203633
Cable to Cover Grommet #304017

As always, thanks in advance for everybodys help and I want to publicly thank FR for the help he has given me so far!

The following should be available from your OMC/BRP dealer:

Piston rings 0378421 $22.46 US per set
Clamp Screw, Swivel Plate and Retainer #375747 $33.95 US
Cover Mounting Grommets #203633 $9.41 US

The rest you will have to find aftermart.

Most powerhead and lower unit parts are the same on all 1950's OMC 25 hp motors.

Personally, if the paint is good I wouldn't bother re-painting/decaling. However, if you are taking this thing down to nuts and bolts you might as well unless its in stellar original shape. IMO

The paint is only original once. If it is worthy of admiration as is, clean it and leave it alone. If it is all beat up, repaint it. But use the correct color. Wrong colors really irritate me. But that's the way I am, I guess.

I agree with your wrong colors FR, they bug me also. I just picked up a 1950 Evinrude 7.5hp and it's painted black like a merc... sigh...
