Hello all

I'm working on a 1956 15hp Johnson and I was wondering how difficult it would be to convert it to electric start and are the parts still available to do it. I have to really yank to get it start it.

Thanks,
Gary

Find a donor motor with the parts.-----1956 to 1976 with the 22 cubic inch block.---18 / 20 / 25 HP ------Best way to go.

I know I will need the flywheel with the teeth and a starter. I will assume then that these parts are all interchangeable from the 18/20/25hp. Anything else that I will need to get?

Racer.. doesn’t the 15 have a smaller displacement? Would e-start still bolt up?

I think the important block dimensions are the same.-----Doubt you will be able to find / afford new parts if 56 is the only thing that will fit.

If you can locate a flywheel, mount and starter to fit, I think you will be OK. (There is not charging system.) Think in terms of a starter button at the stern. Get an outboard solenoid, not an automotive one.

Look first for a donor sister motor with electric. Try AOMCI ads.
