Hi guys. Hope everybody is doing well.
I'm brainstorming the conversion of my 1956 30hp Evinrude Big Twin to a tiller and wanted to "shake the trees" and see if somebody has the trinkets I need lying around. There is definately an ad in AOMC in my future but ya'll get first crack.
The project is in the "whats it gonna take" stage and I wondered what you guys had to say on the subject.

My thoughts are to put it on the back of my 1965 Starcraft Marlin 14' 1" alum boat, 64" beam, rated for 40hp with a 850# capacity

Thanks for looking!

Assuming whoever removed the tiller left the gear/shaft assy in the steering bracket, all you need is the complete tiller assembly and bolt, nut, and washers to hold it on. Parts book will show all the pieces. One word of caution: The brass gears were changed in 1956. May have the old stamped gears, or the better cast bronze gears. Tiller gear must match the steering bracket gear. They are interchangeable as long as you do both gears.

Ouch.
Oh well... Recall that this was the same motor that had the "old style" bronze pin in the prop.

Note: This motor has been a remote - with no tiller since it was mounted originally.

No Title

OK, if I remember correctly, the original electric start setup did not have a tiller--just a dummy emergency knob. Manual start motors did have a tiller. Never mind all that, what you are wanting to do is set it up as the original manual start motors, with tiller.
#49 is the gear/shaft in the steering bracket. You may have the dummy knob in it's place. Just replace one with the other.
