1956 johnson 5.5hp steering bracket removal

i wondering how to remove the steering bracket on a 1956 CD-13 johnson 5.5hp. im stuck and cant figure it out. i took the nuts off the mounts. but wont come off. the steering bracket is broking at the tiller handle mount where the tiller mount up to i bought the replacement already. thanks Jeremy.

I'm not sure, you "might" have to remove the powerhead, but I don't think so. At the least, remove the clamshells from the lower motor mounts, remove the vertical throttle linkage shaft, remove the lower front motor cover (pan). Hopefully, that will give you access to the upper front rubber mount nut. Loosen that nut several turns and remove the nuts from the upper side mounts. Then rock the whole motor assembly out of the steering bracket.

i did exactly what you said and the new steering bracket is on.

i had to take the power head off.
