I have a 1956 30 hp johnson seahorse. Not sure where I should begin the setting on the low speed and high speed adjustment for the lean/rich setting. What is the correct oil mixture? None if this engine is being properly cooled, seemed to run a little hot when running in a barrell. Thanks for any help.

The low speed should be about 1 1/2 turns out (counterclockwise) after gently seating closed. The high speed should be about 1 turn out after seating. I say "about" because you will need to fine tune these settings while the motor is running and pushing your boat. I believe the fuel/oil ratio is 24:1 but I'm not certain about that. When the motor is running, look at the exhaust port, you should see a spray of water coming out with the exhaust. That would tell you if the impeller is working. Running a motor of that size in a barrel will make it run hot in a hurry.

I agree with oldcat on the adjustments, the ratio is 24:1. you can find info on adjustments in the top secret file, at the top of this forum

Thanks for the help. That the finial step before I put this motor on a 1948 Penn Yenn that I have restored. Looking forward to getting her in the water.
