I have inherited a 1957 Cadillac boat with a vintage 35hp 1957 golden Johnson Javelin on it.

Before I put money into getting the motor back in working order, I want to make sure I have all the parts to get the throttle and gear shifter cables hooked up.

I have the pulleys hooked up for steering, and I have the gear shifter cable hooked up as well. I can't for the life of me figure out out how to hook up the throttle shifter cable.

Perhaps I have the wrong cable, or a missing end, who knows. I tried to google for some close up images, or even a YouTube video on how to hook the motor up. I have not succeeded in finding what I need to know.

So now I am pleading to iBoats. I am a total noob here, and I apologize if this is a stupid question....

But does anyone have an images (or a video) of how the throttle shifter cable hooks up for the 1957 Johnson Javelin?

Thanks!

It is pure simplicity. Just like the shifter side, except a different clip to hold the cable end onto the throttle gear arm.

I'll bet back to you with a picture as soon as I find it.

EDIT: Here ya go---#49 cable lock and #48 anti-rattle spring attaches to the steering bracket. They hold the nylon adjusting nut, part of the cable.

#41 cable guide is held onto the throttle gear by #40 clip.

These are for the current cables with nylon adjusting nuts. The old cables with brass trunnions were similar but take different size cable locks.

Thank you. This diagram helps a ton. I know see that I am missing part 40 at the end of the throttle cable.

What would you call that?

Also, if I were to look for new control cables, is it just these OMC control cables that I see on iBoats? The Johnson Type 400? Johnson Type 400 Control Cables - iboats

Thanks again for the diagram. I hope I can replace the cable and the part on the end.

Sounds like a sweet setup! Have any pics?

If you dont have the ends, post a wanted ad at aomci.org and a local member will help you out. New cables wont come with the ends just so you know.
