Re: 1957 Johnson RDE-19 35Hp. Finished Restoration
That's beautiful! My dad has a '56(?) Johnson 30 HP that looks just like it. It's original and still runs great except the electric starter motor died, and it has a leak that has never been successfully repaired, where somehow water gets in to the lower unit. How much $$$ might his 30 HP be worth? Just curious.

Sweet! I taught a lot of kids to waterski on Lake Lure, NC with an identical but not highly-polished FeatherCraft with a 1957 Johnson 35. Great work on both!

Hey Jack... I just bought the exact same motor last weekend. Mine is painted 100% black. But it's only paint right? I hope that my restoration comes out as great as yours did. Mine will be hanging on a 1957 Red Fish that I'm currently working on as well. I can't wait to see the two together... completed.

That does seem to look a tad dark. Could be the lighting too. But remember 57 Holiday Bronze is much more red than bronze. It's definitely the reddest of the three.

Edit; Now I look at it closer it seems maybe it was never intended to be an exact match. (Thread title does say "customization" now.) The cream looks awfully white. Hmmmm makes me wonder why someone would go to all that trouble and not use the correct colors. Oh well, whatever floats ones boat I guess. Beautiful motor anyway!

Re: 1957 Johnson RDE-19 35Hp. Finished Customization
The reason I was asking about the color, I just bought one just like this one off craigslist. The boat I am putting it on is a 1959 Feathercraft Ski-Bo that is anodized blue. I wanted to see if I painted my motor a different color, if it would still be correct for the time period. Example would be either blue or white.

Its your motor you can paint it whatever you want. I suggest if you want a blue or white motor that you look into a 1959 OMC 35 hp or a 1960's OMC 40 hp. Mercury motors were also white in 1959 and are an excellent choice for power if you have advanced outboard skills.
