1958 Johnson Cowl replacement

I have a 1958 Johnson 18 missing the cowl.

I know the 1957's look very similar.
Paint job aside, are they the same cowl?

It will be a bit of a hunt either way. Just nice to be able to increase my odds of winning.

I would love to see a matrix by year and hp on what parts are interchangable.
Does one exist. I would be handy.

Thanks for any input.

'57 & '58 cowls should be the same, except for paint & decals. There is such a thing as a common parts book, but it covers such things as pistons and impellers, not every item. It would not include the hood, for instance.

Post an ad on AOMCI.org or mapleleafchapter.org if you're from Canada eh! Should be the same cowl, minus paint and decals.

Dont think such a matrix exists. Depends on the years and parts really.

Well, actually rolmops, the color is different from 57 to 58. The 1956 -57 models had a lighter faded look and the 58 was a little deeper/richer and like you stated, they reversed the color scheme on the johnson shrouds. Meanwhile, Evinrude, went to a darker blue in 58 as well. Requardless of color though both years will interchange with each other and maybe as far back as 1954.
