I'm looking for a cowl for my 1958 Johnson 18hp. I saw a posting for one claiming that it fits 10 or 18 hp. I thought the two should be different sizes, thus leary. Does this make any sense?

Don't know about the Johnsons but the Evinrude 10 and 18 are different.

The part number for the 10hp is 377446 and on the 18hp, its 377438, so its safe to say, they're different. 1958 10hp and 18hp are complely different motor, from this year and newer. 1957 and earlier, theye did share the same exhaust housing and lower unit.

The part number means little because it would be a different number just because of the different decals.

However, the 18 is just plain bigger than a 10. And yes a 10 is bigger than a 7.5.

Oh, okay, I figured that the part number difference would follow the mechanical difference, instead of cosmetics, simply because cosmetics were changed year to year, whereas the mechanics are caried over for several years. After looking at some parts list, I noticed that the 1956 QD's have a different part number again, but the shroud should still fit, all the way through 1958.
