1959 Chrysler 55hp??

I just picked up a nice little cheap pontoon with trailer and it has from what i can tell around a 1959 chrysler motor on it. The boat has been sitting for 2 years and the power head seems so be in great shape. I noticed that the shift cable in the controls wasnt working, so the first thing i did was check to see if i could manually shift it at the powerhead. Looks like maybe the gear box has issues? Is it possible that from sitting the motor just needs to be ran to get it into gear?

It's a 1973 after doing some research..What lower units would fit this motor?

1. Are you familiar with the control box and know the positions to allow shifting?
2. Which control box do you have?
3. Pic attachments of shifting box’s position and linkage for forward or reverse inside of motor would help.
4. Did you try shifting lower unit at the shift rod directly (moving up/down) with the linkage disconnected?
5. I’ll try to attach examples. This upgrade has been a challenge or me.
