Needs more information, how long have you owned it, did it ever run good,
why did you do the ignition over, did you rebuild the carb etc etc.
Model number would help too.:)

Re: 1959 evivrude lark starting and running problems

i had it for 6 months. i took it out once and it ran fine for an hr, and started sputtering and wouldn't run right. when i took it home i checked the points. they had oil on them so i cleaned them with brake clean, still wouldn't run right so i tried adjusting the idle, not the problem. so i pulled the spark plugs they were dirty, then i got new ones. when i put them in and started it one was sparking, and one was not. then i inspected the wires, they had dry rot cracks. when i had the fly wheel off i tested the coils and one registered at 14.76 the other nothing. so i changed everything set the points to .020 on top, and i cant get it to run any longer than thirty seconds poorly at full throttle. i also spayed carb cleaner through it as it was running and a lot of black junk came out through the exaust.

It needs three things to run and run right...spark, fuel and air. Nature supplies the air. Check compression, spark and the fuel system. If you have a fat blue spark on both cylinders and good compression, that leaves the fuel system. The fact that it ran fine for an hour may mean that you sucked up some crud from the tank into the carb. Start with the tank and work your way forward...tank, connections, fuel line, bulb, connections, fuel line, fuel pump, fuel line, carb. Those are pretty simple carbs, but they need to be clean for the motor to run right.

Re: 1959 evivrude lark starting and running problems

so i pulled the carburetor off and it was very clean inside. i sprayed it out anyway and blew out the ventilation holes. i put it back together and this morning i tried to start it. it ran good for 30 seconds and started to sputter. it cut out and would not start again. i pulled out the spark plugs and they looked OK. next i pulled off the fuel pump diafram and cleaned it out too. still wouldn't start. so i started looking around the carburetor and noticed that behind the carb was gas slowly dripping. not from the gasket but from what the carburetor was attached to witch tells me that the carb might be dumping too much gas into the chamber and is not spraying a vapor like it should. what can i do and what else could it be? and as well how dose the cut out switch work?
