I thought you were just pulling our legs about the pink! Oh yeah, it is a 1959 model isn't it? All kidding aside, I am amazed at the gloss with a brushed-on coat. Great work as usual!

It seems a LOT of people though that I was joking about the pink- But I assure you, it's no joke! It'll probably be a running joke for years to come down at the launch ramp, though

I got another coat of paint on-

This photo shows the color a bit better, since it's in the sun.

Hopefully, I'll get the spraying done in the next few days- The weather looks good, and the wife will be out of town for a few days, a perfect combination! I need to get it done, this is my last week of 'freedom' before I start my new job, and I'm not going to have NEARLY as much time to tinker...

I like it, A LOT!...

It almost looks metallic...if that is a brushed on finish, you are gonna need some serious shades when you spray it on and buff it out...

Even with the variables in the computer imaging...It looks like you nailed the color...

Yessir, Brushed on. It is going to need some sanding and buffing- as there are some drips and runs, but the paint 'behaves' quite well when brushed. The only problems I've had with it were caused by 'user error'- The best piece of advice I've ever been given is not to mess with things too much- Paint it on, leave it alone. I tried in a couple of places to reduce some of the runs, but ended up just leaving a brush mark.

It applies pretty thick, and covers well. I'll hit it with 400 grit wet, then 1000, then 2000, then polish it up, just like the hull.

I did a small section of the dash, just to get an idea what the 'final product' will look like. One thing that I LOVE about this paint is that it lets me wet sand it a few hours after application- This was after about 8 hours of cure time. That is rushing things a bit- But it can be done. I found when I was working on the hull that to get the best gloss in the final polish, it was best to let it cure for at least a few days.

But, it looks pretty good-

Unfortunately, the sun was kind of on it's way down- so the photo isn't the best (plus I used my Iphone, rather than my 'real' camera), but you get a pretty good idea of the gloss. This was done by wet sanding with 400, then 1000, then 2000, then hitting it with rubbing compound and polish. I didn't use the machine buffer, just elbow grease...

The color is JUST what I'm looking for, too. I'm super happy about that- As nice as this paint is, at $138 a half gallon, you don't want to be ordering the wrong color

Classic color for a classic ride.

From my past painting experience I'd would never of believed you could get that good of a result from brushing. As always I'm impressed by your work.

Well, I got up early this morning, and dropped my wife off at the airport (NOT related to the boat, I assure you ) , then got back home, wheeled the boat out, and gave it a good final wipedown with Eastwood PRE...

Then, I took a good hearty swig of Rum... To build up the courage, and pulled the trigger (on the sprayer, that is!)


The first coat is on-

It went on pretty well- The only issues that I had were from operator error, I'm still pretty new to spraying. There are a few drips and runs here and there, but not too bad. One bug decided that he really liked the pink, and decided to land in it- which was the last thing he ever did... He's still a part of my paint job until it dries

The color is what I was looking for! Remember, when the boat is put back together, the white hull will offset it a bit, so it won't be quite as 'shocking'. There's also a lot of chrome hardware that will dress it up.

I'll be putting at least one more, and possibly two more, coats on. Then, it's time to sand, sand, sand.... Then polish!

I thought the hull was gunna be Black??? I am NOT complainin, I like the White better. She will be REAL PURDY Pink and White!!!! I am still in AWE with the Brushed Dash. I guarantee my next paint job WILL be with that Paint!!!!!

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out... The color is just what I was looking for!

I got the second coat on tonight, and it should be ready for some sanding in the morning.

I spent most of the morning sanding... I've got a good portion of the hull done with 400/500, and polished a few sections up just to see how they'd look... I used 1000 grit, then 2000 grit. The shine is ALMOST good enough just with the 2000 grit- But when you hit it with compound and a foam buffing wheel, it REALLY shines-

This is one of the more tedious parts of the whole job, but it isn't too bad because unlike some of the prior jobs, like filling and fairing, it gives you an immediate result that you can really see.

Once I get it all sanded, and do the first of the polishing, I'll let it cure for a few more days until it's really hard, then I'll do the final buffing. Then- Time to put the cap back on the hull!

There are three coats- A VERY light initial coat, then two much heavier ones.

I got the sanding mostly done, and the initial polish with rubbing compound-

There are a few spots I'll have to go back and hit with 1000 grit again that I missed. Then, I'll let it cure for a while longer, and then do the final polish.

Overall, I am VERY happy with the result- All those weeks of prep work paid off!

My Father in law will be in town this weekend, and I'm thinking that having an extra set of hands might make it the perfect time to put the cap back on the hull...

Well- It's back together! This is just a 'dry fit' to make sure everything is going to go where it's supposed to, and also to get an idea of what she'll look like in PINK-

This hull design is a tough one to deal with- Everything has to be perfect for it to fit together, especially in the transom area, due to the way it was built... But, It all fits well

Sorry about the glare- It's really sunny out, and the paint is SHINY

While I've still got a LONG way to go- It actually looks like a boat (Or possibly a pink spaceship!) now... Hard to believe not too long ago it looked like this-
