Hello all, brand new to the forum.

My father bought the above boat brand new. He took exquisite care of care of it...when not in the water, it was in a climate controled garage.

The boat is all 100% original, and in fantastic shape....all the chrome and metal are there, and virtually blemish free. The floor shows no signs of rot, and is solid. It also has a 1960 75hp Evinrude on it, but no battery. There is some usual wear for a boat of 50 years young...some small tears in the upholstery, and some fading paint, but the aluminum hall is perfect...no dings or dents.

My father moved to Minnesota in 2004 and left the boat in the garage. He recently passed away, and Im stuck with the boat. It hasnt ran in 6 years, but I'm positive there is nothing wrong with it.

The only thing we found when we took it out of the garage, was the windshield was missing. There were a number of people who had access to the garage over the years...I presume someone "acquired" if for their own gain.

I dont want the boat, and am prepared to sell it cheap, but want some advice...should I get it running, cleaned up, and replace the windshield before I sell it? Would that gather more money, or sell it "as is" for someone to have a super easy restoration project.

Anybody have any idea what this boat would be worth? Im not looking to make a killing on it, if fact, Im parking my truck outside now so it can stay in the garage, and I need it gone.

Thanks!

-Chris

Absolutely see if if can be gotten running. Could literally double your asking price.

Okay, I found some pix my brother took before we moved it into the garage. It was a little damp out, and those are leaves in/on the boat.

OH MY WORD!!!! You were'nt kidding about pristine condition. I would 100% recommend getting her running. If you do, I think you could get a nice bit of money for her. I have NEVER and I mean NEVER, seen a 1960 boat in that good of condition. I thought mine was good!!! You should be able to get her running for very little money. The Coils, points and condensers MIGHT need replacing and the plugs but heck it might just need the gas lines blown out, carbs cleaned and adjusted, Plugs pulled cleaned and adjusted, stick her in a barrel, put a battery on her and fire her up. Since your Dad tooks such good care of her and she's been stored in a Climate controlled enviironment I hightly suspect she will run with just a little bit of persuation. YOu should check with some of your friends and see if any of them know anyone that has knowledge of Old 2 stroke Evinrude Outboards.

What an amazing boat.

If I lived closer I'd be negotiating with you right NOW!!!!!

Do NOT sell her for a Song!!! She is worth a LOT more than you think!!!!

Wow, simply Wow. Too bad you aren't into boating. That one is what many dream and lust for.

Thanks Wood. I think you have inspired me to get her running...and probably replace the windscreen (any ideas on procuring that?).

I know a lot about all kinds of engines...I can do my own work, but just have so much going on right now, I just wanted to dump it.

In fact, I already have a boat (Malibu Skier) but just dont have any interest in the retro look, or doing a full blown restoration. Since this boat is 100% original, methinks the right person would grab it up, but Im not exactly located in the mecca of nautical abundance either. Plus, winters coming here in Ohio. :(

Thanks again.

Oh, I also have the bimi-top for it.

Oh Im into boating...been so my whole life...even have a ski boat now. Im just not into retro nor interested in doing a restoration. Im more about going fast and muscle. Heres one of our projects;

Lycomming T-53 Gas Turbine stuffed into a 20' Rogers hull with an Arneson surface drive. 1350 hp, 145 mph. :D

That's not a boat- It's a time capsule! It's beautifully preserved. If I were closer.....

Getting the engine running would be a plus, But I don't think it's required- A collector will not care. It's too bad that the windshield is missing, though I suspect that the original was probably a Taylor, and will not be tough to find.

The hardware ALONE on that boat is worth some money-That wheel is the same one that I've got on my boat, and is a VERY popular and sought after one, and I've seldom seen one in that condition. The right buyer would get you $150-200, possibly more, just for that.... I sold a search light similar to that one not too long ago for almost $300, and the bow light could see $100-$150 as well...

I'd recommend advertising it somewhere that people who are in to collecting will see it. Try the 'glassified' ads at fiberglassics, they are free, http://www.fiberglassics.com . Also try Craigslist- You'll likely run across a lot of lowballers there, but there are a lot of collectors that regularly scan the ads nationwide looking for treasures like that.

Maybe not, but you close enough to the great lakes where these star crafts, even the smaller ones, have an extremely loyal, if not cult-like, following.... If you are going to sell it, you should not have any trouble, even with winter approaching. Banging on rivets, much like hockey, appears to be one of the more popular cold weather sports in the Midwest/lakes area.

Try iboats classifieds, eBay or craigslist. As far as your rocket boat goes, that will also cause some jaws to drop for different reasons.

I was wrong! You have a boat or two. And a wienie cooker. LOL You could part the SC out, but in this case I think the whole is worth keeping together. Here's a link to the Starcraft brochures. you might find the boat and what windshield came on her. Craig's List and Ebay are two places to look. A running outboard is a real plus.

I forgot to welcome you to iboats. So....... welcome aboard, Gasturbine.

That is badass. I love those arneson surface drives, they look SO COOL!! it's like a space shuttle. That must be scary with such a flat hull..?

I'm guessing that Rogers hull is not uscg approved for recreational use at 1350 h/p.

Officer, ignore the large rocket....And the comet like red blur you just..saw... It's for looks only. I really use a 25 h.p. Johnny rude with a tiller.

Not hard to find, but it'll take time... A nice one just sold on Ebay for $50, the one thats listed on Craigslist looks pretty good too. It'll just take a long time to find- But they are out there! Probably not worth your time, but a collector will know that it is not a deal killer.

Okay, did some looking around on the engine last night...it is SUPER clean underneath, and everything looks in perfect order...its an Evinrude 75hp V4 model #50523. Does anyone know where I can get part numbers for a tune up? Or better yet, the manual in PDF. format.

Thanks!

Re: 1960 16' Starcraft

I've got a service manual on my site for that motor-

http://agott.com/glassboat/manuals.html

Probably wont need much more than cleaning the carbs and firing her up. If its been in storage, the pump impeller is likely to need replacing as well. Make sure you've got plenty of water going to the engine before you run it- It's best to have the lower unit in a tank with the intake submerged!
