Re: 1960 Starcraft project

Do any of my local building supply houses carry the coat-it, gluvit and proper epoxy we need to start this project. Talking about Lowes or Home depot?

He has it all stripped, surfaces roughed up and ready to go. He is going to use White vinegar. Is he making a misstake not using the alum prep?

My boy wants to start it right away. He has the next four days off and wants to work on it.

Prolly not, West Marine might have it or other Marine type dealership.

Boat is stripped of all wood, flipped over and exterior surfaces have the primer coat on it.

Looking forward to the time the exterior is done.

Is 3M Fiberglass resin the correct stuff to cover my deck and transom wood with?

Probably not. I assume that's polyester resin. That can't be used by itself. You'd need to add fiberglass mat. Epoxy resin can be used by itself but you'll likely need to order it from somewhere like u.s. composites or clark craft.

Thanks
That is what I thought after I read a few posts here.

Is there anything that would work I can pick up at a local home depot or lowes?

See if they have a marine spar varnish. Or at least a very good outdoor varnish.

Re: 1960 Starcraft project

B King, I had a 1967 big twin 40 that ran forever. The electric and pull start saved me on a few trips. A guy in the Gregory area had several of them and restores old Johnson/rudes. I think you did well for an old running 40, I'd have bought it. If you need web-sites for parts PM me, I have a 71 Johnson 40 and I keep the places that still sell parts on file.
