You also need a special screwdriver to get the high speed orifice plugs out. Part number 317002, it is available from an Evinrude dealer.

Thank guys, yea I'm not too find of the steel tanks at all I took the fuel pump off and it was clogged with rusty **** I took the other fuel pump off the parts motor and opened it up and it's clean as a whistle so parts numbers match so I'm going to put the clean one back on

As far as the carbs go, idk what to do about that right now. Replaced the spark plugs all four get good spark, spotless fuel pump going back on. See what she does. Doing lower unit oil change next. Hope she starts purring

I got one of those centering tools from F_R a few years back. There is really no other way to properly center the nozzles without it. With that being said, it's best not to remove the nozzles unless you absolutely have to. That way, you won't need to worry about centering.

If I remember correctly, I made a high-speed orifice plug removal tool. It's basically a flat-blade screwdriver with a very thick blade end. I believe that I used a grinding wheel to get the shape that I needed from a larger flat-blade screwdriver. It wasn't pretty, but it worked on the cheap

Let us know how things went...

Alright so here what's going on, I took the carb off cleaned it and rebuilt it, I got around the nozzles pretty good. Didn't need to take them off as the carb wasnt severely dirty. put new starter on new spark plugs checks the points everything seemed fine, put two new cylinder heads on, new lower unit oil.
What I'm getting now is she's turning over aND wanting to start but I'm getting back fire and loud back fires. the back fires seem to be coming from lower unit.
Any concerns ?
please and thank you.
