Hello everyone,

I am completly new to all of this, but I just picked up an old toy for real cheap. With it came a 1962, 75Hp johnson motor. It was running when parked a few years ago, but apparently was rough and occasional backfired. The previous owner though it may need a reed valve. I bouhgt a manual and am planning on pulling it a part for a look see. Just curoius where you all find parts for this vintage, local dealer says NLA, should be good for an anchor.

Thanks

try sea-way.com or laingsoutboards.com
Local dealer should be used as a boat anchor.

you can also get parts , from Napa Automative they have a whole catalog just for boats and local authorized Johnson dealer. Napa seem to less expensive.
i matched by stampings bearing in rebuild i just did saved 7 bucks a bearing And new mercury impeller kit will seal 24.95.
lots parts at napa, everything else seaway!

It is very rare to find a bad reed valve on any motor made within the last 50 years. Possible but rare. Unless, that is, there is a dirt-dauber nest in there.
