1962 Evinrude 75hp V4 Thermostat Housing

I have a 1962 Evinrude model 50931A 75hp V4. I am trying to remove the thermostat housing. I have removed the thermostat housing cover and thermostat. I am unable to separate the housing plate from the thermostat housing. They are made out of plastic and I do not want to crack them or break them by prying wih a screw driver. I know that the thermostat housing has four screws that hold it to the block but I can't reach them in order to loosen them. I have the factory service manual but it does not mention this. I would appreciate any help.

You need to remove the rear half of the lower engine cowling for access to the T-stat housing. Should be 10-12 hex-head screws holding it on.

Thanks willyclay for the quick reply. I saw the screws that you were talking about. I was not able to loosen them so I sprayed them and will try again in a few days. Is there any other way that I can loosen them?

Bruce, You may use a hand impact driver. That should assist in getting the screws out w/o breaking them.
